Once upon a time, many, many years ago there was a girl named Raushan. Her parents were poor, had nothing, but their daughter`s beauty and mind brightened their life. Neighbours came to Raushan in time of need to hear her wise advice and tender word. Wrinkles smoothed out on the poor people`s faces, when they saw this wonderful flower growing in their small village. One day rumours of the girl`s wisdom came to the shah of the country. The shah, who was a greedy and envious man, planed to test her wisdom for his amusement. In spite of he had many vizirs giving him a piece of advice the shah disliked that a poor girl surpassed his wisest servants in mind and would eclipse his own fame. ![]() I`m glad to see you, my daughter, the shah said with an ironical smile. People say true you`re very beautiful. But I also heard you`re wise and your words like pearls and emeralds. I`d like to be convinced of it. I`ll give you fifty rams. A year later you must return them with their fifty lambs. If you can`t solve this problem, I`ll order to execute you and your parents. Let your will come true, the cleverest shah, answered the girl. Then Raushan received fifty rams and drove them to her village. As she told of the shah`s task, her father was horrified. But rams can`t bear lambs! he exclaimed. Don`t you know it, my daughter? Oh, perfidious, cruel tyrant! It`s the end to our family. He`ll execute all us! Dad, don`t worry, the girl burst out laughing. Let you slaughter a ram for a dinner, we didn`t eat plov for a long time. Our guests will be our poor neighbours who also never tasted the shah`s mutton. As to the shah`s order, when time comes, I`ll give answer to him. ![]() Hello, my shah, said she, coming to a hall. I heard you bore your first son and was taken ill after childbirth. That`s why I came to congratulate you and present these fresh patties. The shah jumped up as he was stung. Insolent girl! As I see, you went mad, if you mock at me! Can men bear children? What idiot does say you this nonsense? Oh, the wisest shah, I head it from you. Don`t you remember your words about rams? If some rams bear lambs, why can`t you, so great governor, bear a son? The shah grew white with anger, but he was ashamed of the young girl won a victory over him. He lay his head on pillows and pretended that he didn`t hear her words. The shah`s servants took Raushan out the palace and praised the girl for her bold and wise answer. |
